The Founders
Like so many storied journeys, Vela Nova started with two stargazing explorers. Co-founders Debora Monzelowsky and Kurt Solland are a marriage in both relationship and vision. Their partnership represents a core belief in bringing diverse elements together to make something more profound—-what they call their alchemy. Through it, Debora and Kurt blend elegant style with the utility of technology. The result is Vela Nova’s beautifully innovative products.
Debora whose entrepreneurial know-how runs three generations deep. At age nine, she enlisted her neighborhood friends into a thriving gardening service. Earnings were high enough to buy a shiny new Schwinn. Debora’s innate work ethic and business savvy took her to global heights, where her sharp eye for beauty and fashion have helped elevate some of the biggest names in the apparel industry.
Kurt’s Viking blood courses with ingenuity and an explorer’s will. His boyhood was filled with his father’s hydroplane racing & design and a house echoing with French Polynesian music composed by his mother’s famous relative. Kurt’s eclectic childhood grew into a life of an avid innovator, engineering, designing, fabricating, and sculpting for premium electronic brands—all to the gentle beat of the Pacific Islands.
While Debora and Kurt couldn’t be more different, they couldn’t be better together. For them, travel and discovery open doors to all things new and possible. Their shared curiosity of the world has always helped define their pursuit of a greater journey—explore to experience, create to contribute.
